It’s billed as a rower, reformer, and resistance trainer all in one, and it lives up to the billing. It was quick and straightforward to use it as a basic rowing machine. Not only does the seat glide easily, but even at faster speeds, I was able to reach complete range of motion on the seat rail without striking the stopper. The foot pedals can be adjusted for comfort, and the pull is smooth. On this machine, all of my actions felt completely natural.

It’s the only machine on this list that employs real water resistance, so it’s the closest thing to being out on the water. You can adjust the resistance level with a turn knob if you want a little extra power, but I prefer to let the water work against me most of the time. Filling it up took a long time — the machine comes with a siphon for transferring water from a bucket to the water reservoir, but I ended up gently pouring water in using my blender pitcher, which made the procedure go much faster.

You can see your calories, time, and distance, but you’ll need to use the supplied tablet holder to immerse yourself in an interactive rowing experience. It can connect to iFit, but it’s not as seamless as the NordicTrack RW900 because you’ll need to bring your own viewing screen.
